The Adventures of Penny and Rumi

I know I can't, but if I were to adopt one of these kittens it would most likely be Penny. She's very smart (her ability to find new ways to crawl into the heating vent is driving me insane), very sweet, and has the most hilarious big eyes.

Ooooh! Zoom lens! Is that a Leica?

She's friendly to both humans and cats alike.

Go ahead, Rumi! You can eat my food! It IS kitten food so technically not the best thing for you, but enjoy your next bowel movement!

And there are few things cuter than when she sees me in the room and curls up next to me to fall asleep.

Check out meh six nipples.

And throughout it all, Rumi stays the same.

Yup, that's him... straddling his cat tower.

I'm a classy cat.

Why Sachin is an awesome boyfriend

Because he surprised me with this...

...in the mail. For no reason at all.

Alice in Wonderland

Whether you like his films or not, you can't deny that Tim Burton has a very clear director's vision. His latest film, Alice in Wonderland, will be in theaters in March 2010, but I'm already getting excited...

Is it just me, or does Johnny Depp's portrayal of The Mad Hatter look eerily like Elijah Wood? (I've labeled them in case you couldn't tell who was who.)

Johnny Depp

Elijah Wood

After seeing Matt Lucas on an episode of Kath & Kim...

He's the one on the left.

...I have to say, I'm a big big fan. And after watching him on The Graham Norton Show I'm an even bigger fan. So I'm pretty stoked that he's playing Tweedledee AND Tweedledum. Double the fun.

It also seems that there is a limited number of actors in England, so Alice in Wonderland will become a Harry Potter, Part II of sorts...

Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange) will play The Red Queen

Sir Alan Rickman (Severus Snape) will be playing The Caterpillar

Timothy Spall (Peter Pettigrew, or Wormtail) plays The Bloodhound

Frances de la Tour (Madame Maxime) is Aunt Imogene

And there you have it! Who's down to see it with me?

Kitty Update!

We have things to tell you...

Little Lucy is no longer little! She has now reached two pounds and is ready to be spayed (ouch)!

OMG! What?! Where am I going?!

The rest are growing fast and are only a few ounces away. I have no idea how they've been growing so much considering everytime Rumi is in the room he eats their food.

Hey! That's our food! You have your own tuna from Trader Joe's!

But it's so tasty. And I barely get enough tuna. AND this was my room before you guys showed up.

And, of course, the kittens can always be counted on to be found sleeping in the cutest positions.

They got to meet Sachin!

Hey.

I'm going to miss them when they're gone...

What's better than Stephen Colbert, Tom Hanks, and a puppy?

Not a whole lot.

Dear Sachin,

We've already realized how miserable this long-distance thing can be. It's much more pleasant to think about the future than mull about the fact that we see each other for 48 hours a month on average. And what about the future? Will we fulfill my dream of traveling the world, making documentaries and saving the lives of people in need? Or will we settle down with 4 dogs, 6 cats, 12 bunnies, and a turtle in the Ukraine like you've always dreamed? I come to you with a post about another option: Let's move to Australia. Not that you need convincing why, but here's a list of reasons...

12. We love beaches. The whole country is a freaking island.

11. We already know how to apply sunblock...
... so that whole "hole in the ozone" thing shouldn't be a big deal.

10. It is a well-known fact that students of a higher education in Australia take a much more laid back view towards academics than we do in the United States.

What this means for us: I can freaking coast through my PhD dissertation.

9. Australia's shortage of doctors means they are recruiting from overseas.

8. Australia has a landscape unlike anywhere else in the world.
Ayers Rock

7. All Australians are incredibly good-looking.
Orlando Bloom

Hugh Jackman

Miranda Kerr

Emile de Ravin

6. One word: Koalas

5. "Hey Sach, do you want to go to the Philippines for a mini-vacation?"

4. Baz Luhrmann, Kath & Kim, Roy & HG

3. Two more words: New Zealand

2. We could live in a place like this.
Maybe.

1. Australians are badass. And so are we.

Love,
Me

Thanks for the self-esteem boost, K-bag

Me: I've always hated my nose. It's too big. It's just this big THING on my face.
Kirstin: What?! You're wrong! I like your nose... Stop flaring your nostrils.
Me: I'm not.
Sachin: Damn it, Kirstin. You were so close.

Playing for Change: Peace through Music

A documentary called "Playing for Change" was featured on Bill Moyers Journal a while ago and, to put it lightly, looked drop-your-pants awesome. Here's a video of the song "Stand by Me" performed by musicians from all around the world. And I do mean "from all around the world", because the artists recorded their parts in their respective countries without the benefit of being able to hear each other.

I'm serious, watch this video and if you don't get goosebumps, please leave me a comment.

Edit: I just found out that the producer, Mark Johnson, will be interviewed on the show where I work! Spooky...

Rumi!

My sister pointed out that I neglected to post an entry about the most important cat of all: Rumi! Rumi is my pet. Or, judging by the way he forces me to feed him at 5:20a.m. and neglects to dispose of his own feces, he actually owns me. So without further ado...

Rumi!

What?

Hey, come on, Rumi! People are excited to see you, too!

But you didn't even care enough to write about me before! I'm hurt.

Aww, Rumz. I'm really sorry.

I'm very hurt! I'm not talking to you anymore.

Really?

Humph. Go get me some tuna and we'll talk about it.

The Fabulous Adventures of Mr. Percy

"These are the stories that will open your SOUL!"
- My father about this collection of old sanskrit stories that he is now obsessed with.

"This is your assignment for the life."
- My father insisting that I find all 10 volumes of these stories.

And of course, little Fozzy Bear.

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii...

I think I'll just stay here for a while.

Oooh, I wanna stay there too, Fozzy!
No, you can't. Go away.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaauuuuuggghhh!

Whoops. Sorry.

Girls are mean to me.

I'll play by myself.

Grrr!

...

It is kind of lonely, though...

And I'm tired. No one will take a nap with me.

I'll take a nap with you, Fozzy!
Yaaaay! Zzzzzzzzzz...

Fozzy Bear and his sisters will be available for adoption soon. If you'd like to adopt some kitties, send me an email!
